Former police officer killed after being ambushed by hooded men

His wife bravely tried to save him by standing in front of one of the hooded men

André da Silva Aleixo, a former military police officer, was killed on Monday morning, October 7, on Rua Formosa, in the Jardim Guanabara neighborhood, Ilha do Governador. Aleixo had left his house to walk his dogs when he was ambushed by two hooded men who, from a car, opened fire on him. The moment was captured by security cameras and spread on social media, revealing the details of this attack.

The attackers, after shooting Aleixo, backed off after hearing the screams of a woman who was present at the scene. Upon realizing his intervention, the driver of the car got out of the vehicle and shot the ex-policeman again, despite the fact that the woman tried to stop the attack by placing herself in front of one of the attackers.

Despite her brave effort to save her husband, André da Silva Aleixo died on the spot.

Agents from the 17th Battalion of the Military Police (Ilha do Governador) went to the scene, where they found the ex-policeman dead and proceeded to isolate the area so that forensic experts could carry out their work. The Civil Police reported in a statement that the capital's Homicide Police Station is investigating the case and is looking for information that will allow the identification of those responsible for the crime.

Aleixo was known in Ilha do Governador and São Gonçalo as a figure involved in the administration of minor crimes, which could be related to the attack against him.

In 2020, he had been arrested by the Military Police of Internal Affairs in Niterói along with six other suspects, also members of the Military Police. During that operation, the authorities found a .9 mm caliber Glock pistol, R$ 257 thousand in cash, notebooks with notes of illicit payments and other suspicious items in his possession.
