Kamila Pacasi's murderer sent to preventive prison in Chonchocoro
Kamila's confessed murderer was sent to preventive prison in Chonchocoro. The government demands a sentence of 30 years without pardon
Edwin Marco Calle Huanca, the confessed murderer of Kamila Pacasi Zanga, was transferred to the maximum security prison in Chonchocoro, Viacha, where he will serve a six-month preventive detention while the judicial process against him continues. The crime, which took place last Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the classroom of the Simón Bolívar Higher School for Teacher Training in Caranavi, shocked the population and has generated a strong clamor for justice.
Kamila Pacasi Zanga, 23, was murdered by Calle, who stabbed her 39 times in front of her classmates. According to the investigation, the attacker acted out of "revenge" after having had a romantic relationship with the young woman, and committed the femicide using a kitchen knife. Despite the efforts of teachers and classmates, Kamila was transferred lifeless to the Caranavi Hospital.
The murderer was presented to the media in La Paz on Tuesday, where, dressed in a black vest and showing no remorse, he remained silent.
Given the seriousness of the crime, the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, assured that the State will do everything possible so that Calle receives the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison without the right to pardon. For his part, President Luis Arce also expressed on social networks his support for the search for the maximum sentence.
The La Paz departmental prosecutor, William Alave, said that, although Calle has not yet been sentenced, all evidence points to him receiving the maximum penalty.
Among the most compelling evidence are the videos recorded by Kamila's classmates, which show the attack in which the young woman lost her life after more than ten minutes. These recordings will be presented to the judge to ensure an exemplary sentence.
The murder of Kamila Pacasi Zanga has left a 5-year-old boy orphaned and has caused great commotion in Caranavi, where family, friends and neighbors have taken to the streets demanding justice.
The Municipal Council of Caranavi also expressed its sorrow and condolences to the young woman's family through an official statement. The educational community, parents and citizens in general are calling for a firm response from justice and an end to impunity in cases of femicide.
