The grandmother was arrested after shooting alleged home invaders. The incident left two dead and sparked an intense police operation.
The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) confirmed the arrest of Carlota 'N', an elderly woman accused of shooting two alleged home invaders in her home located in the municipality of Chalco, State of Mexico.
The incident, which was captured on video and went viral on social media, occurred last Tuesday, April 1, at the Hacienda de Guadalupe Housing Unit. In the images, Carlota 'N' can be seen arriving at the scene with other family members, including Eduardo 'N' and Mariana 'N', who were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.
According to reports, the home in question had been illegally occupied by alleged members of the 22 de Octubre Union, who even changed the locks. The owner, Carlota 'N', arrived armed and, after an exchange of words, pulled out a firearm and shot one of the alleged invaders, a 51-year-old man, who was hit in the chest.
In response, a 19-year-old man tried to intervene but was also shot by the woman. The young man died in the backyard of the home despite efforts to help him. The 51-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died hours later due to the severity of his wound.
Following the video's circulation on social media and the corresponding investigation, the FGJEM (Federal Attorney General's Office) launched a joint operation with members of the State of Mexico Security Secretariat and municipal police from Chimalhuacán and Chicoloapan. As a result, Carlota 'N' was arrested along with Eduardo 'N' and Mariana 'N', who allegedly participated in the attack.
Authorities reported that the three detainees will be brought before a judge to determine their legal status, while the investigation into the homicide charge continues.
The case has sparked debate on social media, with some users defending Carlota 'N', arguing that she acted in defense of her property, while others believe that violence was not the solution.
Authorities reiterated that any legal dispute over property should be resolved through the appropriate channels and not through the use of force.
