Man arrested for assaulting a girl in Barcelona: Outrage on social media

Last Sunday, October 6, an incident in Montjuïc Park in Barcelona generated a strong reaction of indignation on social media. An Ecuadorian man, identified as Henry R.C., 31 years old, was arrested after assaulting a one-year-old girl and threatening to kill her. The video of the assault, recorded by a relative of the little girl, has circulated widely on social media, causing rejection and shock among users.

In the images, a French tourist couple can be seen walking with their baby in a stroller through the park, when Henry R.C. He began to intimidate them with threatening shouts. "Or I'll kill your daughter right now," can be heard in the video, followed by a slap to the little girl.

The baby's sobbing after the attack is shocking, while the father, visibly scared and not understanding the language, takes her in his arms and walks away from the attacker without confronting him. During the attack, the man continued to make threats and beat his chest, while the person recording him yelled at him: "Are you crazy?"

Henry R.C. was arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra shortly after. According to the Catalan police, the attacker had already attacked three other people that same day.

He is charged with the crimes of injury and threats. Despite the seriousness of the events, there is a possibility that he will be released after his appearance before a court, which has caused even more outrage among those who have seen the video and know the details of the case.

Social media exploded after the video was released, with many users mistakenly assuming that the person was of Maghrebi origin. However, authorities have confirmed that the person was an Ecuadorian citizen, whose expressions in Spanish and violent behaviour were captured on the recording.
