Woman's body set on fire in train station; family points to ex-husband

The family accuses the ex-husband of not accepting the separation. Police are searching for the suspect

An atrocious act has shocked the population of Augusto Vasconcelos, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the body of a woman was set on fire on Monday afternoon, April 8. The family of the victim, identified as Michele Pinto da Silva, 39, points to her ex-husband, Edmilson Félix do Nascimento, 44, as the alleged perpetrator of the crime.

The suspect, unable to accept the end of his relationship with Michele, reportedly carried out this ruthless act as revenge for the separation. The couple had separated more than a month ago, and the family claims the man had previously shown signs of violent behavior, even going so far as to invade Michele's home and destroy furniture.

The victim's cousin, Wagner Monzato, publicly denounced the ex-husband as responsible for the fire. Monzato relates that the attack occurred shortly after Michele dropped off his daughter at his mother's house. The desperate act of violence left Michele seriously injured, and she was rushed to Rocha Faria Hospital, where she is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition.

Firefighters were called to extinguish the flames and treat the victim. Michele had to undergo emergency surgery due to the severity of her injuries, and her condition is considered very delicate by the hospital management.

The authorities, for their part, are carrying out efforts to locate and arrest the suspect, while the transport company Supervia has declared that it is closely monitoring the situation and hopes for the quick recovery of the victim.
