Councilor César Araújo Veras murdered by waiter in Camocim restaurant

In a shocking event in Camocim, a city located on the west coast of Ceará, Brazil, councilor César Araújo Veras (PDT), 51, was brutally murdered just seconds after arriving at a local restaurant. The tragic event took place this Sunday (April 28), and was captured by an internal security camera of the establishment.

The crime was perpetrated by a restaurant waiter, identified as Antônio Charlan Rocha Souza, 34, who, for no apparent reason, attacked councilor Araújo Veras with a knife to the neck just moments after he and a woman sat in one of the local tables. In addition to the councilman, the attacker also injured two other men who were at the scene, including the owner of the restaurant.

The rapid intervention of the authorities allowed the arrest of the suspect hours after the crime in the Tijuca neighborhood, on the outskirts of Camocim. The weapon used in the attack was confiscated as evidence.

After his arrest, Antônio Charlan Rocha Souza was charged with aggravated homicide for useless reasons and without the possibility of defense, as well as for two attempted aggravated homicides.

The injured victims, including the owner of the restaurant, Euclides Oliveira Neto, 56, and customer Fábio Roberto de Castro Sousa, 55, were transferred to medical centers in Sobral, where they are out of danger.

The Camocim City Council expressed deep regret over the loss of Councilor Araújo Veras, highlighting his career and service to the community. In an official statement, the Chamber regretted the premature departure of the former president and expressed its solidarity with family and friends at this difficult time.
