Community foils robbery in Montería and arrests suspect with broomsticks

In the Las Viñas neighborhood of Montería, Córdoba, Colombia, an attempted robbery ended with the capture of a man thanks to the quick reaction of the community. The incident occurred last Tuesday, September 24, when a subject stole a woman's bag and tried to flee on a motorcycle.

However, the victim's cries for help and the collaboration of the neighbors allowed the criminal to be stopped, who was caught by the residents and finally captured by the authorities.

In videos circulating on social networks, the moment can be seen when the man, after stealing a gray bag, tried to evade those who were chasing him on a motorcycle.

When he found himself on a closed street and with no way out, the suspect was confronted by a group of neighbors who were waiting for him with broomsticks.

One of the residents managed to knock him off the motorcycle with a well-aimed blow, after which the thief tried to continue fleeing, but the motorcycle no longer worked. Surrounded by the community, he resisted handing over the bag while some tried to calm the situation, asking them not to attack him.

The phenomenon of taking justice into one's own hands is growing in Colombia, where communities, desperate for insecurity, decide to act before the authorities.

The captured man is now in the custody of local authorities, while the corresponding legal procedures are carried out to clarify his responsibility in the robbery. The victim's belongings were recovered thanks to the quick intervention of the neighborhood residents.
