The Valencia canton, in the province of Los Ríos, Ecuador, has been the scene of a new violent episode that has shocked the community. Eduardo Macías Zambrano, a renowned seafood merchant, was brutally shot to death in front of the First Notary Office of the aforementioned canton. The events occurred last Friday, April 19, around 11:00 in the morning.
According to eyewitness accounts, Macías Zambrano was arriving at the establishment in his red truck when he was approached by five armed men who were traveling in a red car with tinted windows.
Without saying a word, the attackers shot at the merchant, hitting him in the head and chest, causing his instant death. Security cameras captured the moment of the violent event, evidencing the brutality of the crime.
The police authorities have deployed an operation to find the whereabouts of those responsible, although so far no arrests have been made.
The possibility that the crime is related to some extortion problem against Macías Zambrano is being investigated, however, this line of investigation has not yet been confirmed.
This unfortunate event adds to a series of crimes that have shaken the province of Los Ríos in recent days. Between Monday and Friday of this week, six people have lost their lives violently in the cantons of Quevedo, Babahoyo, Vinces and Valencia.
