Ceiling collapse at a wedding celebration leaves a young woman dead and 50 injured

A wedding celebration in Valledupar turned into a tragedy when the roof of a kiosk in a country house collapsed, resulting in the death of a young woman and at least 50 people injured.

The unfortunate event occurred on the night of Saturday June 1st in a country house located on the outskirts of the city, near the livestock fair, while a heavy downpour fell on the region.

The fatal victim was identified as Naileth Guerra, a 22-year-old girl who was attending the event as one of the bridesmaids. Naileth was known for her passion for music, especially playing the drums, a talent she proudly displayed on her social media accounts.

She maintained a close relationship with the newly married couple, whom she knew from her local church in Valledupar.

Images and videos of the collapse began to quickly circulate on social media, where attendees can be heard asking for help to get out of the rubble. The scene shows dozens of people trapped under sheets and wooden beams, in the midst of an atmosphere of desperation.

Given the emergency, the Valledupar Fire Department and several ambulances went to the scene to carry out rescue work and transfer the injured to the nearest clinics.

As reported by the Government Secretariat of Valledupar, the rescue work extended until late into the night, managing to free most (not all) of those trapped.

Authorities confirmed that the young couple did not suffer serious injuries.

This news is still developing. Many of the injured people have been taken to various clinics and their condition is being investigated. There may be more victims in the coming hours.
