Turkish Chef Shot Dead by Ex-Boyfriend While on Shift

A 33-year-old chef was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in a restaurant in Izmir, Turkey. The attack, captured on video, also left two injured

An armed attack at a restaurant in Izmir, Turkey, left one woman dead and two injured. The attacker, the victim's ex-boyfriend, was later found dead at his home.

The incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. on September 10 at a Michelin-starred restaurant located on Dere Street in the Yeni Mahalle neighborhood, Urla district, Izmir province.

According to investigations, Ramazan Ümit Görgülü, 34, waited for hours in front of the restaurant before opening fire on his ex-girlfriend, Selin Angun, 33, a renowned chef there.

The attacker first shot at people at the restaurant's entrance and then entered to directly attack Selin, who was on break. Ülkünur Angun, 23, and Direnç Topçu, 27, were also injured in the attack and were rushed to Urla State Hospital.

The restaurant's security cameras recorded the exact moment Görgülü arrived with a gun in his hand, fired at those present, and then fired multiple shots at Selin. The images show the coldness and premeditation of the attack.

The victim's family revealed that Selin had reported her ex-partner's threats on several occasions. She had even requested a restraining order, as he had been sending her threatening messages and even bullets as warnings.

After fleeing the scene, Ramazan Ümit Görgülü was found hours later in a home, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The murder of Selin Angun has generated a wave of condemnation on social media and among the public, demanding greater protection measures for women who are victims of threats and harassment.
