Authorities captured a 17-year-old minor amid an angry mob demanding justice at their own hands
On the afternoon of July 3, it was reported the capture of the alleged person responsible for the murder of Dennisse Esperanza Sulecio Marcia, 25, who was found dead last weekend in a residence in Ribera del Río, in San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala.
The accused is a 17-year-old minor, identified as Kelvin Santiago Sosa Rodriguez, located when he was taking refuge in his grandmother's home in the same neighborhood where the Dennisse crime occurred. The residents of the area, enraged, demanded that the authorities remove him from the house or threatened to take justice into his own hands. Given the situation, the National Civil Police (PNC) protected the area and the Public Ministry (MP) carried out a search procedure on the property.
The alleged perpetrator was removed from the house under strong security measures and transferred to the corresponding court to resolve his legal situation.
Crime Details:
Dennisse was found dead on June 30 in an apartment on 14 Interior Avenue 2-93 in the Ribera del Río neighborhood, San Miguel Petapa, where she rented. The young woman was murdered in front of her 7-month-old baby, who was unharmed. She also had a 7-year-old son, who was not at the scene when the crime occurred.
Dennisse died as a result of stab wounds, she was decapitated and her heart was extracted. Traces of blood and a manuscript that said: "I told you not to leave me alone" were found at the crime scene.
Location of Remains:
On July 3, it was reported the location of human remains in a vacant lot in Los Álamos, zone 13 of San Miguel Petapa, which preliminarily correspond to Dennisse. Only her head was found, which was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) for the corresponding procedures.
Links with Gangs:
PNC investigators suggest that the teenager could have ties to the Mara Salvatrucha, a criminal gang in Guatemala. The modus operandi of the murder points in this direction, since the murderer took the head and heart of the victim, leaving a note possibly to divert the investigation.
Defense of the Minor:
The minor's defense requested the court to perform a psychiatric test before the first statement hearing.
