Russian woman wanted after tragic death of her son due to abandonment in CDMX

Authorities are looking for a Russian woman accused of abandoning her son in an apartment in CDMX, where he died of malnutrition

A moving case shook Mexico City after the discovery of a child in critical condition in an apartment located in the Insurgentes Mixcoac neighborhood, Benito Juárez municipality. Omar, only 6 years old, was found on December 30 in a state of severe malnutrition and on the verge of death. Authorities from the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) and the Investigative Police (PDI) responded to the situation after a call for help.

In videos posted on social media by journalist Carlos Jiménez, the child can be seen wrapped in sheets, with blue lips and unconscious. The images show the deplorable state of the apartment, which lacked basic services such as water, electricity and gas.

Preliminary investigations identified Olga Idelevich, the child's mother and of Russian origin, as responsible. It is presumed that she left him alone for several days, due to economic problems to support the child and meet household expenses.

After being found, Omar was rushed to a pediatric hospital in Azcapotzalco, but unfortunately he died the next day due to complications from severe malnutrition and dehydration.

When authorities went to the home again to arrest Idelevich, she had already fled. Testimonies from neighbors indicate that she escaped shortly after her son's condition was discovered. It is feared that she left the country to evade justice.

In addition, it was learned that since 2019 Olga Idelevich had been involved in a legal dispute with little Omar's father, which could have aggravated the minor's vulnerable situation.

The FGJCDMX has opened an investigation file for child abuse and abandonment, and continues with efforts to locate Idelevich, who is the main suspect. Authorities urge citizens to provide any information that may help determine her whereabouts.
