Good Samaritan dies while trying to stop car theft

The suspect, identified and arrested, faces multiple serious charges


In a tragic incident in Lumberton, North Carolina, United States, an act of bravery ended in tragedy when a good Samaritan lost his life while trying to stop a carjacking, according to the local Police Department.

The events occurred last Thursday, March 14 on West 5th Street in Lumberton, when the police received a call about an attempted car theft. As officers were en route to the scene, they learned that the alleged thief was involved in a hit-and-run case at a nearby gas station and was attempting to steal another vehicle.

Several citizens got involved to prevent the theft of the car, but unfortunately, the suspect managed to seize the vehicle of one of the good Samaritans. In the process of escaping, the suspect deliberately rammed one of the anonymous brave men with the stolen vehicle, causing serious injuries.

The injured Good Samaritan, identified as Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was rushed to the hospital, but sadly died from his injuries.

Police chased the suspect until he crashed the stolen vehicle, leading to his arrest. The individual, identified as Ricky Alex Driggers, 28, of Lumberton, faces serious charges including first-degree murder, attempted common law robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and felony fleeing and eluding.
