Machete attack in Villa Lugano: Woman survives attempted murder

A woman survives an attempted murder by her partner's uncle, who attacked her with a machete in the middle of a dispute

A woman from Villa Lugano, Buenos Aires, survived a machete attack perpetrated by her partner's uncle, Víctor Fernando Suárez, 60 years old. The attacker violated a restraining order, stole the victim's panic button and attacked her in the middle of a dispute over a family plot of land they share. The violence had escalated for months, culminating in an attempted murder that almost cost the woman her life.

The attack occurred while Marisol, the victim, along with her husband and two teenage children, were installing a gate in the yard of their house, 30 meters from Suárez's home.

According to the woman's account, Suárez suddenly came out, enraged, and began to attack her with a machete after kicking the gate. "He hit me with the machete on the head, told me 'I'm going to kill you' and attacked me again. I was able to defend myself, but I already had two cuts. I didn't want him to come in because my children were sleeping," Marisol explained.

The conflict had begun to intensify after the death of Marisol's father-in-law in December, which led to an increase in Suárez's attacks on his nephew and his family. Since February, the situation worsened, with Suárez harassing Marisol and blocking their children's access to the shared land. "The violence was escalating, forcing us to install security cameras," she said.

Despite having a police patrol assigned to her for months, Marisol complains that protection measures are not being enforced, partly due to a lack of personnel. "I am asking the judge to be aware of the seriousness of the matter. This person came to kill me and he knew what he was doing," she said. The initial case description did not reflect the seriousness of the attack, but following the insistence of the victim and her family, it was changed to "attempted murder."

The family continues to demand effective protection and justice, stating that the violence will continue if severe measures are not taken against the aggressor, who has already repeatedly violated judicial restrictions.
