Caborca Cartel leader, nephew of Caro Quintero, murdered
Manuel Beltrán Quintero, alias El 8 and leader of the Caborca Cartel, was murdered in Polanco, Mexico City
On September 12, in the Polanco Section III neighborhood of Mexico City, Manuel Beltrán Quintero, alias "El 8," alleged leader of the Caborca Cartel and nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero, was shot to death as he got out of his armored truck. The attack, which left his body inside the vehicle, is being investigated by the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX).
According to preliminary reports from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the attack occurred when two subjects approached Beltrán Quintero and opened fire directly on him. Despite the arrival of paramedics, the victim no longer showed vital signs, and it was confirmed that he had been shot in the head. The scene was secured by the authorities and the body was transferred to the amphitheater of the BJ-3 Territorial Coordination to carry out the corresponding expert reports.
Although Beltrán Quintero did not carry identification documents, he was later identified by media and journalists, including Antonio Nieto, who revealed that the victim was "El 8", an important leader of the Caborca Cartel, a criminal organization that operates in Sonora and Quintana Roo. Nieto shared a video on his social networks where the shooting can be heard and people nearby can be seen fleeing the scene.
The journalist also reported that a bulletproof vest was found in the truck where he was shot down, which the victim was not wearing at the time of the attack. The vehicle was accompanied by a woman, who, according to initial reports, was injured and taken to a nearby clinic, although it was later learned that she had fled the scene.
In addition, it was revealed that the truck was registered in the name of Pamela Hernández, a member of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico in the State of Mexico, who is now wanted to testify as a witness to the murder. Authorities are also investigating whether she is the woman who escaped after the attack.
The murder of Manuel Beltrán Quintero, alias "El 8", has generated great interest due to his relationship with the figure of Rafael Caro Quintero, known as "El Narco de Narcos", and for the position he held within the Caborca Cartel, along with his brother Raúl Beltrán Quintero, alias "El 9" or "El Wico", who is currently imprisoned in the Federal Penitentiary of Hermosillo.
