Personal trainer shot dead, eight months after wife's death

Personal trainer Giovanny Diniz Carvalho, 36, was shot dead outside his house in Petrolina, Pernambuco, just eight months after the tragic death of his wife, Aila Pimenta, who died in a domestic accident. The crime was captured by security cameras, and a 35-year-old military policeman has been arrested as a suspect.

Giovanny's death occurred on Monday night (October 21) in the Vila Mocó neighborhood, when a hooded man attacked him with several shots. The images show how the victim tried to flee and defend himself, but was unable to escape from his attacker, who fired repeatedly, causing his death on the spot. The video of the attack has been shared on local media.

The following day, the Civil Police of Pernambuco arrested the suspect, a military policeman whose name has not been revealed. In a statement, the authorities confirmed that, since this is a common crime, the investigation will be led by the Civil Police, and an administrative process will be initiated against the officer involved.

Giovanny had gained local notoriety not only for his profession, but for having been widowed in tragic circumstances. His wife, Aila Pimenta, also a personal trainer, died in February after receiving an electric shock in their home.

The couple had three young children, and Giovanny himself and his eldest daughter were injured in that incident when trying to disconnect the device that caused the shock.

Giovanny was part of a recent report that highlighted the strength of single parents, after being left in charge of their children aged 6, 2 and 1, following Aila's death.

Now, their children have been orphaned, and the community is in shock over the second devastating blow this family has suffered in such a short time.

The Civil Police continues to investigate the motive behind the murder, while the detainee remains in custody.
