Homeless elderly man dies after being hit by a truck
The vehicle, which was transporting a family, lost control and ended up causing the death of the 75-year-old man
Gir Somnath, India. A tragic accident that occurred on Thursday morning left the death of Dinesh Gandhi, a 75-year-old homeless man, who was run over while sleeping on a path. The incident took place around 7:22 a.m. on May 16. in the Tower Chowk area, when a van carrying a family from Ahmedabad lost control.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Yatin Sigal, apparently lost control of the car while traveling to the Union Territory of Diu for a family vacation.
According to footage captured by a CCTV camera, the van first collided with a parked bicycle before running over Gandhi, who was sleeping in front of a juice centre.
The vehicle stopped on its own after colliding with a store shutter. “Gandhi died on the spot... All nine people in the car, including the driver, suffered injuries. Three of them suffered serious injuries,” said MN Rana, inspector in charge of Una police station.
Authorities have arrested Yatin Sigal and charged him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, according to the Indian Penal Code.
The injured, including Sigal and the other occupants of the vehicle, were taken to a local hospital for medical care.
