Altercation in Villa Crespo ends with man stabbed with a screwdriver

Early Monday morning, a violent street fight shook the Villa Crespo neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. at the intersection of Villarroel and Fitz Roy streets, when two men, who were drinking alcohol on the sidewalk, began arguing over a lighter.

The victim demanded that the attacker return the lighter he had supposedly lent him:

"Lend me a light. I bought it, it's my light," he demanded.

The other man responded by denying having it and, amid insults, threatened him:

"Come on, come on, I'll stab you."

The tension quickly escalated, and the attacker's mother, who was present, tried to intervene to stop the confrontation. However, the young man lost control and attacked both his opponent and his own mother.

Witnesses and security cameras recorded how the attacker first knocked the victim down and hit him with fences at a construction site. The desperate mother tried to stop him but was thrown to the ground and kicked by her son.

Far from stopping, the attacker continued with a brutal sequence: he knocked the victim to the ground, kicked him in the head until he was unconscious, and finally stabbed him in the head and face with a screwdriver before fleeing the scene.

The arrest and the victim's situation

The episode did not go unpunished. Thanks to security camera footage, the City Police were able to identify and arrest the attacker hours later. The court charged him with attempted murder.

Meanwhile, the victim remains in serious condition, with a guarded prognosis, at a local hospital.
