Teen arrested for school shooting threat; claims it was a joke

An 11-year-old teenager in Florida is arrested after threatening a school shooting. He now faces felony charges

An 11-year-old teenager, identified as Carlo "Kingston" Dorelli, was arrested in Port Orange, Florida, after threatening to commit a mass shooting at Creekside High School. According to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the young man had shown a video to his classmates where he displayed an arsenal of weapons, including BB guns, fake ammunition, knives and swords, as well as a list of people who were supposedly his targets.

Authorities reported that Dorelli claimed it was all a joke, but the consequences of his actions have been serious. The minor was arrested and faces charges of threatening in writing to carry out a mass shooting, which is a felony in the state of Florida.

In a video posted by the sheriff himself, Dorelli can be seen being escorted by deputies, handcuffed at the wrists and ankles.

Sheriff Chitwood said that, starting Monday, authorities will begin to more closely investigate the actions of parents of any minor who posts online threats about school shootings. Chitwood was emphatic in warning parents about the importance of disciplining their children. "If you, the parents, do not raise your children, the law will," he said in a statement.

The case has raised concerns, given that the young man not only had access to various weapons, but had also written a list of potential victims.

Although Dorelli insists that it was just a joke, authorities are not willing to take these threats lightly, especially in a country where school shootings have left deep scars.
