Venezuelan tourist dies after being struck by lightning on a beach in Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena Colombia. In an unfortunate and painful event, a woman identified as Foilanis Maireth Rivas Román, 34 years old and originally from Venezuela, lost her life after being struck by a powerful lightning bolt in Playa Azul.

The tragedy occurred while the victim was enjoying a sea bath with her family, including a girl, on a day when rain had been present in several sectors of Cartagena.

The shocking images captured by a security camera in Playa Azul show the exact moment when the lightning strikes the woman, who falls to the sand.

A nearby person is also affected, but manages to recover and flee the scene. In an additional shot, a police officer is seen walking nearby, oblivious to the tragedy that has just occurred, although the roar of lightning stuns him momentarily.

After the incident, curious onlookers and lifeguards come to the scene and request an ambulance. The woman is transferred to the Serena del Mar Hospital, in the North Zone of Cartagena, where paramedics provide first aid and make efforts to revive her. However, unfortunately, the attempts are unsuccessful, and Foilanis Maireth Rivas Román is declared deceased.

The tragic event has generated controversy on social networks, as the lack of quick support is pointed out due to the ignorance and fear of the people present, who feared being electrocuted.

Experts have clarified that the victim did not represent a danger to those around him and advocate the importance of providing immediate assistance with resuscitation maneuvers to avoid possible cardiorespiratory arrests.
