Tragic feminicide in the Santafé shopping center

A 32-year-old woman was murdered by her ex-partner at her workplace in the Santafé Shopping Center in Bogotá


Bogotá, Colombia - A tragic event shook the Santafé Shopping Center in the north of Bogotá this Wednesday, May 29, when Stefanny Barranco Oquendo, 32 years old and originally from Malambo, Atlántico, was murdered by her ex-partner inside her workplace in an Imusa store.

Around 5:00 in the afternoon, Stefanny, who was in her customer service position, was attacked by her ex-partner, Iván José de la Rosa, who entered the premises and began a heated argument. According to witnesses, the attacker took a kitchen utensil from the store and attacked the woman. However, authorities confirmed that the man was carrying his own knife with which he initially carried out the attack.

The attacker, after mortally wounding Barranco Oquendo, injured himself and was detained by customers and security personnel at the shopping center. The authorities arrived at the scene at 5:14 p.m., controlling the situation and transferring the attacker to a medical center.

Life of Stefanny Barranco Oquendo

Stefanny, affectionately known as "Steffy", was a mother of two children and active on social networks, where she shared moments with her children and her taste for vallenato music and champeta. She was a follower of Junior de Barranquilla and had recently mourned the death of the vallenato composer Omar Geles.




Statement from the authorities

Major Viviana Alvarado, Head of Bogotá Ciudad Púrpura strategy, reported that Stefanny Barranco did not have protection measures and had not reported threats from her ex-partner. Major Alvarado called on women to report any type of assault to receive help and adequate protection measures.

The Santafé Shopping Center issued a statement deeply regretting the incident: "The incident is under investigation by the authorities and they will be the ones to point out the causes of it.

The Santafé Shopping Center, from the first moment, proceeded to activate the established protocol. immediately notified the competent authorities, who were present at the Shopping Center at 5:14 pm taking control of the situation.”

Likewise, they expressed their solidarity with the affected families and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the authorities in the investigation.
