Soldier Shot Dead While Entering a Bakery: Wife Is the Mastermind
A retired Army soldier was killed in southern Cali while entering a bakery. The hitman was captured and confessed everything
Southern Cali was the scene of a crime that has shocked the population. Giovanni Viveros Valencia, a 43-year-old retired professional soldier, was shot dead while entering a bakery in the Ciudad 2000 neighborhood.
The attack occurred on Calle 33B and Carrera 69, when Viveros was intercepted by hitmen traveling on motorcycles. According to General Carlos Oviedo, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, the former soldier was attacked with a firearm in public.
The Army's Third Brigade confirmed that Viveros had completed his service in the institution and was part of the active reserve. His murder caused deep sorrow among colleagues and acquaintances, who highlighted his career as a professional soldier.
His wife, prime suspect
Days after the crime, authorities arrested a woman in Cali for her alleged involvement in the homicide. She was none other than the victim's wife. According to investigators, she allegedly hired a hitman to kill her husband in order to steal his pension and collect his life insurance.
The hitman's confession, combined with key evidence collected during the investigation, led to the woman being implicated as the mastermind behind the crime. Unusually, witnesses claim the woman was seen crying at the crime scene, trying to simulate grief over her loss.
According to authorities, the woman allegedly offered and paid the hitman two million pesos to carry out the murder. The case has generated public outrage due to the cold-blooded approach to planning the crime, apparently motivated by economic interests.
Those involved are currently facing legal proceedings to establish their responsibility and determine the appropriate penalties.
