Captured hitman committed the crime in front of police officers

The criminal did not mind being on a public road and close to a police unit to carry out his mission


Sincelejo, Colombia - In a surprising episode, the National Police in Sucre managed to identify and capture Léider Manuel Palencia Basilio, 22 years old, identified as the author of the murder of Maicol Daniel López Monterroza, 21 years old, which occurred on Wednesday night in the vicinity of the URI in Sincelejo.

The victim, Maycol, who was driving a Pulsar motorcycle, was intercepted and shot at by the hitman while he was traveling on 20th Street. In an unexpected twist, the crime took place in front of a police patrol that was parked at the scene. Despite the police presence, the hitman, riding a motorcycle, did not notice the situation and continued shooting the victim on the ground.




The quick response of a police officer, belonging to the tourism specialty, was crucial in containing the attacker. Despite the adversity, the officer confronted the hitman, who still had the weapon in his hands, managing to disarm him and apprehend him. The video of the incident shows how more police arrived in seconds, some chasing the accomplice who transported the hitman and others helping the victim.

In the capture of Palencia Basilio, the Police seized a Browning 9 mm caliber pistol with 5 cartridges. During the operation, a woman was injured, apparently the grill of the motorcycle. The mayor of Sincelejo, Yahir Acuña Cardales, lamented the loss of the citizen and praised the brave reaction of the National Police.

"Although we regret this news due to the impact on the life of this citizen, we praise the brave reaction of our National Police," said the mayor. He highlighted the harmonious collaboration between security forces and affirmed that they work tirelessly to prevent and quickly respond to incidents like this in favor of citizen security. Léider Manuel Palencia Basilio will be taken to guarantee control hearings before a judge of the Republic in the next few hours.
