Santa Marta in chaos due to acts of vandalism by motorcycle taxi drivers outraged by the death of Erick Alberto Melo Escobar

Similar to what happened in Bucaramanga, motorcycle taxi drivers outraged by the death of Daniel Ibañez cause chaos in the city

The funeral of Erick Alberto Melo Escobar, a 24-year-old motorcycle taxi driver allegedly murdered by a police officer after ignoring a stop sign, became the scene of chaos and massive robberies in the city of Santa Marta.

After the ceremony at the Jardines de Paz cemetery, a group of motorcyclists, apparently seeking justice, unleashed a wave of robberies in the area of Mamatoco and Portal de las Avenidas, as well as in other parts of the city. These incidents were recorded on various security cameras from nearby commercial establishments.

The captured images reveal how the motorcyclists, who were traveling in a caravan, got out of their vehicles and attacked several citizens, stripping them of their belongings.

It is estimated that at least six people were victims of these individuals, who managed to take cash, cell phones, jewelry and other valuables, according to one of those affected.

The local authorities hope that, thanks to the visual evidence obtained, the Santa Marta Metropolitan Police will be able to identify those responsible for the robberies and proceed to capture them.

This series of violent events has generated great concern in the community, which demands strong actions to guarantee citizen safety and prevent future criminal episodes after each outrageous death of a motorcyclist.
