Patrolman loses his life and his partner fights to survive after collision with a taxi

A tragic traffic accident in Barranquilla left a devastating balance for the National Police. Last Friday, October 18, patrolman Luis Ángel Pertuz Mancilla lost his life and his partner, patrolwoman Diana Ximena Contreras Osorio, was seriously injured, after a collision with a taxi on Carrera 30 with Avenida Murillo, in the Chiquinquirá neighborhood.

The accident occurred when the two uniformed officers were traveling on an institutional motorcycle and violently collided with the taxi. The impact threw both police officers off the motorcycle, causing them to collide with a sidewalk. Immediately, both were transferred to medical centers.

Luis Ángel Pertuz Mancilla, who was driving the motorcycle, was rushed to the General Hospital of Barranquilla, where despite medical efforts, he died due to the serious injuries suffered in the accident.

Diana Ximena Contreras Osorio was admitted to the Centro Clinic, where she remains in critical condition. She suffered a severe head trauma that required emergency surgery, as well as fractures to her arms and legs. Fortunately, the head injury did not compromise her brain, according to the most recent medical report, although her prognosis remains reserved.

Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident. The National Police are seeking to determine whether there were external factors or human errors that caused the tragic incident. So far, no definitive details have been revealed about the exact causes of the crash.

Family, friends and colleagues of the deceased patrolman expressed their pain for the loss. The commander of the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla, Brigadier General Mariano Botero Coy, deeply regretted the death of Pertuz and sent a message of support to the family of the officer: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague Luis Ángel Pertuz. Our condolences to his family and loved ones."

Meanwhile, patrolwoman Contreras Osorio continues to fight for her life, and her colleagues have asked for prayers for her speedy recovery. Doctors are constantly monitoring her due to the severity of her injuries.
