A new episode of violence against a woman has shocked the department of Valle del Cauca. In a chilling femicide attempt, recorded on a security camera video, a man with a history of domestic violence and extortion attacked a young woman with a machete in Yumbo.
The terrifying incident took place in the Bolívar neighborhood, specifically on Carrera 3 between 8th and 9th streets. The attacker, identified as Arlison David Álvarez Zapata, broke into an optician's shop, where the victim, distracted, was at his workplace. The violent man swung machetes indiscriminately, unleashing panic at the scene.
The brave young woman, upon realizing the attack, sought refuge in one of her offices, where she struggled with her attacker to avoid a tragic outcome. She managed to move towards the exit door, preventing the potential feminicide from fulfilling her objective. Although she suffered severe injuries to her arms while trying to defend herself against her, the woman managed to escape and preserve her life.
The authorities, led by the commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, Colonel Carlos Oviedo, acted quickly to capture the aggressor. Colonel Giovanni Cristancho, commander of the Valle del Cauca Police Department, revealed that Arlison David Álvarez Zapata already had a record of domestic violence and extortion, and will now face charges for this new crime.
The victim, currently recovering, will receive psychological support from the Yumbo municipal administration. Mayor Alexander Ruiz assured that the community provides all the necessary support, and the aggressor will face the consequences under the full rigor of the law.
"His looks intimidated me too much, I never thought that with that single look it would result in so much consequence at this moment. With blows to the pelvis, the back, thank God they are blows that can be improved with time, with process that I am going to carry out," stated the victim.
