Attempted Robbery Ends with the Death of a Criminal Who Worked as a Driver for a Ride-Hailing Platform

An attempted robbery at a restaurant in Medellín, Colombia, was thwarted by the quick reaction of a security guard, resulting in the death of one criminal and the injury of another on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred in the Belén La Nubia neighborhood, specifically at Carrera 83 and Calle 15A. Two criminals on a motorcycle arrived at the food establishment with the intent to rob the diners, while a third accomplice waited on another motorcycle.

However, their plan was foiled when a man, who was part of a security detail, drew his weapon to confront the criminals. In the exchange of gunfire, two of the assailants were injured, and one of them, identified as Wilfredo Posada Quintero, lost his life at the scene.

Posada Quintero, 26, and an alleged member of the criminal group La Roja, was not only involved in the attempted robbery but also worked as a driver for the ride-hailing platform Indriver. Authorities are now investigating whether he had been involved in other crimes while performing this job.

The security guard involved was presented to the National Prosecutor's Office, and the weapon he used to confront the criminals is now in the hands of the authorities. Meanwhile, the search continues for the third individual who managed to escape from the scene.

A video posted on social media shows the injured criminal pleading with bystanders for help to be taken to a medical center, generating controversy among those who witnessed the incident. Another accomplice of the deceased was taken to surgery at Clínica Las Américas and is currently in stable condition.

At this time, it has not been mentioned whether the security guard will face legal charges for his intervention in the incident, while the authorities continue to investigate the case.
