Attempted robbery at a car wash in Cartagena ended with a criminal killed

An attempted robbery at a car wash in Cartagena ended in a shootout: a 17-year-old criminal was killed

On the afternoon of Friday, August 29, at exactly 4:55 p.m., the calm in the Martínez Martelo neighborhood of Cartagena was shattered by a shootout in front of a car wash known as Las Brisas, on Avenida El Lago.

According to witnesses, a 17-year-old boy, identified as Jesús David Murillo Utria, entered the establishment armed with the intention of stealing a chain from a man (a plainclothes police officer) who was waiting for service. He was wearing a white sweater, white sneakers, and jeans. After intimidating the victim, the assailant shot him, leaving him wounded and unconscious in a chair.

What Murillo didn't know was that another plainclothes National Police officer was standing next to the victim. He reacted immediately by drawing his service weapon. A round of gunfire erupted, lasting nearly two minutes and captured on security cameras.

During the exchange, the young man was shot in the chest, killing him at the scene. The robbery victim, also a police officer, was injured and was taken to a medical center where his condition was reserved.

Investigations revealed that Murillo had arrived as a passenger on a motorcycle. However, when the shooting began, the driver fled the scene, abandoning his companion.

The Cartagena Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident was a robbery and that both the robbery victim and the officer who fired the shot were members of the force.

During the operation, the firearm the minor was carrying was seized and placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities indicated that intelligence and judicial police units are making progress in the search for the second offender involved.
