The Neiva Metropolitan Police managed to capture the alleged murderers of patrol officer Paula Cristina Ortega Córdoba, who was the victim of a hitman while she was traveling on a motorcycle to her job at the Ipanema CAI. The criminals were arrested almost three hours after perpetrating the attack against the uniformed woman.
The tragic event occurred on the afternoon of August 2, 2023, when patrol officer Paula Cristina Ortega Córdoba was riding a motorcycle to CAI Ipanema to change shifts with her colleagues.
She was intercepted by hitmen on Calle 8 and Carrera 18 in the Calixto neighborhood, who without saying a word from her, shot her several times in the back while she waited in front of a traffic light. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the uniformed woman died due to the seriousness of her injuries.
The Metropolitan Police of Neiva immediately activated a Padlock Plan throughout the city to find the whereabouts of the murderers. Thanks to this deployment and the records of the sector's security cameras, the suspects were located in the village of San Antonio de Anaconia, near the township of Vegalarga, in the rural area of the capital of Huila.
Patrol officer Paula Cristina Ortega Córdoba, mother of an 8-year-old girl, had joined the National Police in September 2021 and since August 2022 she had been a patrol officer for the Neiva Metropolitan Police. During her time in the service, she received six commendations for her outstanding job performance.
The authorities do not rule out that this crime was perpetrated by members of the Farc dissidents, taking into account the presence of this criminal structure in Neiva and other nearby municipalities, according to an alert issued by the Ombudsman in previous weeks.
The capture of the hit men is an important step to clarify this tragic fact and bring those responsible to justice. Investigations will continue to determine the motives behind the murder of patrol officer Ortega Córdoba and ensure that justice is done in this case.
