Man shot after leaving a commercial premises in Bogotá

The authorities are investigating, but the identity of the victim or the motives are still unknown

Monday night in the Santa Matilde neighborhood of Puente Aranda, Bogotá, Colombia, was marred by violence when a man, allegedly a merchant from San Andresito, was attacked by a hitman outside a commercial establishment. The event was recorded on local security cameras.

Around 6:40 p.m. On February 12, the sound of three detonations plunged residents into a moment of panic, leading them to suspend their activities and take shelter. Once the fear dissipated, curiosity prompted them to look out, discovering that a man had been shot on Carrera 37 and Calle 9 Sur.

According to a witness' account, the murder was perpetrated by an individual who approached on foot when the victim was leaving a neighborhood grocery store. The aggressor drew his firearm and fired three times, without giving the man a chance to defend himself. Although several businesses were still open, the merchants, shocked by the scene, confessed that they were not able to observe the crime in detail.

A neighbor commented: "I understand that one of the attackers was on this corner and the other was waiting for him to escape on a motorcycle (...) I saw the injured man and a woman who, apparently, was his wife." Another person who was in the same establishment acted quickly when he saw the victim dying, requesting help to transfer him to a nearby health center. Despite efforts, the approximately 43-year-old man did not survive.

The authorities already have the security camera recordings and have begun the relevant investigations. So far, the identity of the victim and the possible motives behind this tragic event have not been revealed.
