Controversial Judge Vivian Polanía Found Dead in Her Home in Cúcuta

Authorities confirmed the discovery of the body of Vivian Polanía, a judge of preliminary hearings, in her residence located in the La Riviera neighborhood of Cúcuta. The case was reported on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17, after her security detail was unable to establish contact with her, despite her having several activities scheduled for that day.

According to information provided by the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, the report was received around 5:50 p.m. Through the Automatic Dispatch Center (CAD), authorities received a call from the security guard of the residential complex where the judge lived. When there was no response, they entered the residence with the assistance of a locksmith and accompanied by the judge's mother.

Inside the home, the judge was found dead on her bed. Her two-month-old son was found beside her. The child was immediately taken to a medical center, as he showed apparent signs of malnutrition. Authorities later confirmed that the child is stable and under medical observation, progressing satisfactorily.

Colonel Libardo Fabio Ojeda Eraso, commander of the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, explained that the last recorded communication between the judge and her security detail from the National Protection Unit occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16.

According to the preliminary report from authorities, no signs of violence were found at the scene. However, the case remains under investigation while awaiting the official results from the Forensic Medicine Institute, which will allow for a precise determination of the cause of death.

Preliminary findings, based on the signs of rigor mortis and lividity observed on the body, suggest that the death may have occurred in the early morning hours.

The Attorney General's Office is carrying out the necessary procedures in conjunction with forensic experts from the CAD (Center for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences), while police units continue to collect testimonies and review security camera footage from the area.

Meanwhile, various rumors have emerged surrounding the death, including reports of possible prior threats and other hypotheses related to a possible suicide. However, authorities emphasized that all these reports are under investigation and that, for now, no line of inquiry can be confirmed until the definitive forensic and judicial results are available.
