In a tragic incident, a robber was killed by the Police after a chase in the El Espinal neighborhood of Cartagena. The event resulted in the death of the offender and one person injured.
According to the police report, it all started when complaints were received about a robbery of bathers on the beaches of El Cabrero. The offender, identified as Pedro Antonio Rodríguez Robles, was carrying a traumatic weapon during the robbery.
The authorities began a pursuit of the suspect, who was mobilizing on a motorcycle. At the checkpoint, the individual attacked the police officers and continued his flight until he reached the Espinal sector. It was there that he confronted the policemen and activated his traumatic weapon against them.
According to the official report, one of the agents responded to the attack by taking out his staff weapon and shooting at the robber, causing a fatal wound. Pedro Rodríguez, who had been released from prison last Friday after serving a sentence for qualified theft, died at the scene.
The Police revealed that the deceased had two ongoing legal proceedings at the Attorney General's Office. His release from prison had occurred just days before the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man had been chased by several patrol cars and near Mall Plaza, allegedly a police officer had fired his service weapon, causing the wound that ultimately cost him his life.
During the pursuit, the individual also ran over a worker from one of the commercial establishments located in the area. The injured employee was transferred to an assistance center to receive medical attention.
