Owner seriously injured in attack by his pitbull dogs

A 42-year-old man suffered an attack by his own pit bull dogs in the Barcelona neighborhood of Puente Aranda in Bogotá


The capital of Colombia wakes up to the news of the attack suffered by a 42-year-old man by his own pit bull dogs. The incident took place in his home located in the Barcelona neighborhood, in the town of Puente Aranda.

Luis Alberto Barreto Valencia, a native of Chaparral, Tolima, was seriously injured after his two dogs, considered special handlers, attacked him fiercely. The Metropolitan Police, upon being alerted, quickly responded to the scene. According to Major Camilo González Cano, sectional chief of Carabineros and Rural Security, the officers found the dogs still attacking their owner.

Despite initial efforts to control the situation, it was necessary to subdue the animals with firearms, with prior authorization from Barreto and his sister, who also resides in the home.

Major González Cano explained that Barreto is a person with a disability and highlighted the prompt intervention of the Police to safeguard his life. "Our police officers, in order to safeguard the life of a person with a disability, made use of the means at their disposal immediately and in a timely manner, since this person was being attacked by canines and had multiple injuries," explained the uniformed




The victim was immediately transferred to a hospital, where his prognosis remains reserved. Medical sources reported that the injuries suffered are so serious that there is a possibility that Barreto will lose one of his arms, due to an artery being severely affected.

In a statement, Major González Cano emphasized that the National Police ensures the integrity of the animals, but in situations of imminent danger such as the one registered in Puente Aranda, human life has priority.

In addition, it was revealed that Barreto's sister works as an accounting assistant and also resides in the same home. The National Police and Major González Cano took advantage of the opportunity to remind the owners of special management breeds of the importance of complying with Law 1801 of 2016, which regulates the ownership of these animals.

Some media, such as Infobae, have reported that Barreto could have trained the dogs for fights, although authorities have not confirmed this version.
