Two police officers prevent tragedy during attempted femicide and rescue a minor
One of the police officers was injured after preventing an attempted femicide in Copacabana. They managed to rescue a minor and capture the attacker
Swift and courageous police action prevented an attempted femicide from ending in tragedy this Tuesday, June 17, in Copacabana, Antioquia. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. in the La Pedrera neighborhood, where three people were injured, including a uniformed officer who responded to the emergency call.
The alert was reported by neighbors concerned for the safety of a woman and her minor daughter, who were allegedly being held inside a home by an agitated man.
Authorities quickly arrived at the scene and, upon entering the area, observed the individual leaving carrying the minor in his arms, while a security camera captured the incident.
Upon noticing the police presence and the arrival of the minor's mother, the man dropped the girl and violently attacked the woman, attacking her with a sharp weapon at least three times, causing injuries to her body and head.
A uniformed officer immediately intervened to separate the attacker from the victim, but in the midst of the struggle, the 33-year-old attacker wounded the officer in the arm.
Given the critical situation, the police officer used his service weapon to neutralize the attacker and capture him.
The three injured—the 25-year-old woman, the police officer, and the attacker—were taken to various health centers where they are receiving medical attention.
The attacker remains in police custody and will be brought before a court as soon as he is released.
The Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley reiterated its call to citizens to use official reporting channels for any instance of domestic violence, ensuring complete confidentiality and protection for victims.
