Two Venezuelan sisters have been arrested in Medellín for the murder of a compatriot in a bar
Medellín, Colombia, May 18, 2024. The Medellín Metropolitan Police have arrested two sisters of Venezuelan nationality, identified as Daniela and Diana Carolina Peña, for their alleged participation in the homicide of another Venezuelan woman, Yusmary del Valle Meléndez, from between 35 and 40 years old. The tragic incident took place in a bar in the Estación Villa sector, early this Saturday.
According to the first investigations, the altercation began with a dispute between the three women, all from Cabimas, Zulia state, and sex workers in the sector. The fight broke out over the passing love of a foreign client and quickly escalated to physical violence.
Eyewitnesses and social media posts reported that during the fight, the Peña sisters pulled out a knife and attacked Yusmary del Valle, who suffered multiple injuries.
Despite medical efforts, the victim arrived without vital signs at a nearby clinic.
The rapid police intervention allowed the capture of the alleged perpetrators minutes after the events. Daniela and Diana Carolina Peña were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office, which will continue the investigation to clarify the details of the homicide.
Yusmary del Valle Meléndez, also from Cabimas and resident in sector R5, leaves behind her children, whose relatives are in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia.
