Attack on Pregnant Psychologist: Fighting for Her Life After Emergency C-Section

A seemingly peaceful night ended in a violent scene in the municipality of Uribia, where a 27-year-old psychologist was shot while on the terrace of her home. Today, she remains in critical condition, while her baby fights for survival in an incubator.

The victim was identified as Catherine Paola Torres Barros, a healthcare professional who worked at the Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Hospital. She was eight months pregnant when she was shot multiple times in the back and head.

Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors at the Maicao Clinic were forced to perform an emergency cesarean section to save her baby, identified as Salomé. The newborn remains in an incubator under strict medical supervision.

The attack occurred on the night of March 22 in the Venezuela neighborhood. According to preliminary reports, a man on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and opened fire on the woman before fleeing. The incident was captured on security cameras, and the footage is now in the hands of the authorities.

Meanwhile, Catherine remains in the Intensive Care Unit, where she underwent a second surgery due to lung complications. Her condition remains critical.
