The man was traveling in a white Toyota Fortuner truck, when he was approached by subjects who were traveling on a motorcycle

Saturday night in Barranquilla was marked by a violent event that ended the life of a man south of the city. Yamil Martínez del Valle, 46, was the victim of a hitman attack that once again puts security in the region in the spotlight.

The incident took place in the Simón Bolívar neighborhood, at the confluence of Calle 19 and Carrera 1F. According to reports from the Metropolitan Police, Martínez del Valle was driving his white Toyota Fortuner truck when he was intercepted by individuals on a motorcycle. The attackers opened fire repeatedly on Martínez, who died as a result of his injuries.

Attention is now focused on the circumstances surrounding the event, in particular the fact that the victim had left shortly before the elections carried out at the ITIDA school in the municipality of Soledad. Police are examining all available leads, including a possible connection to the political activity of Martínez del Valle, who was associated with former Soledad councilor Ricardo Arcón as part of his security team.

Details are still scarce and authorities have not confirmed the motivations behind the attack. The investigation is still ongoing and the Police have asked for citizen collaboration to find those responsible for this crime that has shocked the community.

This homicide increases the violence statistics in the metropolitan area of Barranquilla and raises questions about the security measures in force, especially in periods of high political tension such as electoral counts.
