Actress Daveigh Chase, remembered for playing Samara Morgan in the film The Ring and for voicing Lilo in Lilo & Stitch, died on June 17 in Los Angeles at the age of 35. Days later, authorities released the official cause of her death.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, the actress suffered from Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a condition that was cited as a determining factor in her death. The report also indicated that the habitual use of multiple substances contributed to her passing.
Initially, it was preliminarily reported that the probable cause was related to meningitis and a systemic blood infection.
According to reports, Chase had been hospitalized since early June due to malnutrition. Her health deteriorated in the following days until her death.
Her father, John David Schwallier, told The New York Times that the actress had experienced long periods of homelessness and, at times, had lived on the streets. He also stated that she began using drugs at age 13 and that the family had lost contact with her some time ago.
